Why there's no overnight fix
AKN develops over time — chronic follicular inflammation progressing, in some cases, to scarring. Reversing visible severity takes sustained care, and some established scarring may not fully resolve with any non-surgical approach. That's the honest baseline.
What the timeline depends on
- Severity at the start. Mild, early bumps and established keloid-like plaques are on completely different timelines.
- Whether medical treatment is involved. Dermatologist-led treatment (steroids, laser) follows clinical protocols with their own cadences. Barber-based supportive care follows the rhythm of your appointments and routine.
- Consistency. Keeping appointments and maintaining the home routine is the single biggest factor you control. This isn't motivational speaking — interrupted care simply doesn't compound.
- Your haircut routine. If the same close-cut trauma that aggravates AKN continues unchanged, you're working against the plan. This is fixable and it's part of what a knowledgeable barber addresses.
What we won't promise
The old draft said "most clients see real improvement in the first month." We have no verified data behind that, so it's gone. Here's what Yisrael tells people in the chair instead, word for word:
"AKN is a chronic inflammatory condition, so I never promise that one service will permanently make it disappear. My goal is to help you manage it, improve the appearance of the affected area, reduce bumps, irritation and ingrown hairs, and create a consistent routine that gives your scalp the best opportunity to improve. Results depend heavily on severity, consistency, grooming habits, home care and how your skin responds. More advanced cases may also require evaluation or treatment from a dermatologist."
The bottom line
Ask about timelines in your consultation. Expect an honest range, not a guarantee. And understand that with a chronic condition, "how long until it's gone" is the wrong question — "what does good management look like for me" is the right one.
Your next step: book a consultation — complimentary, 10–15 minutes — and get a timeline built around your actual case.
